Today’s blog features Westcott top photographer Terry White. Terry has been with our family for several years while focusing on portraiture photography and creates some beautiful images.
How This Image Was Captured
This capture was accomplished by using two lights. The first light was the main light, which is a Spiderlite TD6 within a 36″ x 48″ shallow softbox. This light provides the majority of our light for this portrait as you can see on the right side of the model’s face (our left). This light provides a very soft feel to our model’s face.
The second light in this setup is our fill light. Terry has used a Spiderlite TD5 within a 12” by 36″ Stripbank. He also used a grid on the stripbank to make the light more focused and direct. Terry used a TD5 within the stripbank, which allowed 250 watts of daylight fluorescent light but you could certainly use the TD6 as well, which would provide 300 watts. This light effectively filled any shadows that were created by the main light.
The final portion of the image was creating a unique background and Terry did that by using a black seamless background with some shredded clear plastic just in front of it, to provide some interesting texture.
