Join Top Pro Elite Photographer Eric Eggly on his fashion photography shoot using Westcott’s continuous LED light, the Skylux. This video is part two of a four part series. Eric uses five Skylux units to light two models in this video. Four of the Skylux units are used to light the female model, which is the focus of the image in this video. The first Skylux is bare and the focus is directly on the female model’s face. This bare Skylux is considered the main, or key, light for this image. This creates great contrast and texture. The second light in this video is considered the fill light. Eric chose to use a 12 x 50 stripbank on a Skylux to fill the light on the right side of the female model’s body along with the stairs. The third light in this fashion photography shoot is an accent light. Eric uses a Skylux with a cone reflector and a 20 degree honeycomb grid to light the model’s leg and control exactly where the light falls. The final light that Eric uses on the female is another accent light, but this time coming from the front/right side and this is a Skylux within a 16 x 22 softbox with a grid. The male model in the background is lit with one Skylux from behind with no light modifier so that he was silhouetted nicely.
The Skylux is the newest light in the Westcott lineup and it packs 1000 watts of dimmable continuous light. The best part of continuous light is the ability to own the same lights for photography as you own for videography. The light coming from the Skylux is a daylight balanced 5600 degrees kelvin, which provides a very clean color temperature to your scene. Another great feature of the new Skylux is the ability to mount nearly any modifier to these lights. Along with mounting an umbrella through the unit, you can add softboxes, grids, snoots, and in this video, barn doors. All of this is possible due to the Bowens-S Type mount built right into the Skylux.
Westcott Softboxes are backed by 5 and 7 year warranties making them some of the most durable in the industry. Small softboxes are great for lighting someones face like the female in this fashion photography shoot. Stripbank boxes are also great for a hair light or an edge light.
