By on 2013-06-11

Join Top Pro Jim Schmelzer as he uses the Westcott Spiderlite TD6 to discuss basic studio lighting fundamentals. In the first of this five par series, Jim demonstrates light placement and how it can drastically change the look of the final images. Learn step-by-step how to create various lighting patterns such as Rembrandt, Split, Broad, and Short lighting. In this video, Jim also shows the TD6 being used without a light modifier, demonstrating the diffusion created by the frosted bulbs.

The Spiderlite TD6 features 1200 watts of continuous lighting and the photographer can choose whether to use daylight balanced or tungsten lights in this unit.  The light is adjustable with three switches on the back of the unit, allowing photographers to “dial down” the power for instances where you need less output.  The TD6 has a speed ring built right into the head making it easy for photographers to mount any four post box onto this unit, and modify the light even more.  The TD6 is a wonderful light to learn studio lighting fundamentals due to the fact that it is constant light and “What you see is what you get”.
