Matt Hernandez in Louisville: Environmental Portraiture and Sports Composites

Westcott Top Pro, Matt Hernandez, uses lighting and retouching software to create creative, dramatic images in his senior portraiture sessions. Make your portraits stand out from the crowd and wow your client by delivering dynamic shots. Learn how he creates his lifestyle portraits and designs intense composite shots for athletes including how he poses, retouches, and delivers the images. A rising photographer from Paducah, Kentucky, this is a chance to learn techniques from one of the regions hottest senior portrait photographers.
The course features in depth coverage of:
- How action shots can lead to shooting teams and seniors
- Posing the subject(s)
- Balancing light with outdoor strobes
- Lighting for composites- two and three light set ups
- Workflow for outdoor sport portraits
- How to get dramatic skies using strobes and modifiers
- Preparing composites for Photoshop
The first part of the class will include a shoot with a live model. Matt will share insight into how lighting a subject effectively indoors can make the compositing process a lot easier. The second half of the day we will dig into Lightroom and Photoshop for some retouching and compositing tips.
Matt combines his background in graphic design, his love for photography, and his passion for sports to create unique and artistic athlete portraits and composites. Recently named The Paducah Sun’s Readers’ Choice for Best Photographer in his area, he has established a solid local business, and is branching out to other areas. He has photographed professional athletes as well as members of Team USA.
Matt has had multiple pieces selected for Editor’s Choice of the Week for the National Association of Photoshop Professionals website, as well as receiving the Most Creative Award at the Westcott Shootout at Photoshop World Las Vegas 2012. He received The People’s Choice Award at the 2012 Google Plus Photographer’s Conference. Prior to his career as a photographer, he was honored with several graphic design awards, which include two straight COSIDA awards for the nation’s best swimming and diving media guide covers, as well as back-to-back awards for football post-season media guide covers. He has also been published in the Graphic Design USA In-House Design Awards Annual.
