Andrew Kornylak is a premier outdoor, sports advertising and editorial photographer and filmmaker.

He didn’t get his start at the Pratt Institute. He has never assisted for industry legends Annie Liebovits, Mark Seiliger or Jim Fiscus. Instead, after graduating with a degree in mathematics from the University of Chicago, Kornylak began his career as a participant in his subject matter, traveling and rock climbing around the US and abroad since 1992โ€”in between jobs as a software developer, high-rise window-washer, and climbing instructor.

Along the way he helped pioneer a new approach to climbing and adventure photography, taking a studio-style lighting approach into the high-angle realm. Though he now works on assignment for major magazines and commercial clients such as Businessweek, Discover, Apple, Red Bull, Mercedes Benz, and USA Today, Kornylak still maintains focus on adventure sports photography, and of course still loves to climb.

As a cinematographer, he has created over 70 commercials, music videos and editorial pieces, including the popular climbing web series The Beta. He also co-directed the climbing documentaries Heart of Stone and A Fine Line.
